Revival.
Lately, as I stalk my grade school friends on Facebook (you do it, too), I can’t help but notice the increasing amount of college dropouts or people who have already settled into minimum wage jobs. Call me an ass, but is it really time for that? We’re twenty years old. Where are our dreams? Did we give up pursuing because things actually became difficult? School is like a race: Who will finish? As we continue through elementary school and junior high, we normally have a 100% participation rate. High school…about 85% participation (not sure how they’re managing now). And what is it when we arrive to college? Is this the big hurdle? Where snipers begin their field day and shoot people down? Their aspirations? What they want to be when they grow up? I remember when we were eleven years-old and at the Dyer Jr. High Honor Banquet. We filled out a cute survey that our teacher would read aloud and the parents would make their “oooooooooo’s” and “aaaaaaaaaaaw’s”. I remember two of the questions: “What is your favorite song?” and “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As every guy said they wanted to be a professional (insert sport here) player, and the girls said more reputable things (like doctors). I said “I would like to be a musician.” and “My favorite song is Chopin’s Winter Wind.” Everyone laughed, and if anyone who attended the banquet is reading this, don’t deny it. Here is where the irony kicks in, I’m STILL a musician, and I’m still pursuing my dream. How many of you are going to be professional football players, and how many of you are still going to be doctors (okay, I know one)? What I’m trying to say is, why are we stopping our dreams so early in life?
